LG Electronics’ premium smartphone G4 has become a huge hit in the U.S. market. Although the model has shown poor sales in the domestic market, the G4 has sold more than 1 million units in three months after its launch in the U.S. market.
According to data from Strategy Analytics on Sept. 29, LG Electronics recorded a 15 percent share in the North American smartphone market in Q2 2015. The figure was up 3.1 percentage points from 11.9 percent during the same period last year.
As the size of the domestic high-end smartphone market has reduced due to the rapid increase in the demand of low-end smartphones, the G4 has shown lower sales than expected. However, its market share is increasing in the U.S. market.
According to industry sources, the G4 is recording higher sales than the G3, the model which improved the overall sales of the company last year. In fact, sales of the LG G4 have surpassed one million units three months after it was launched through Verizon Wireless, the largest mobile carrier in the U.S., on June 5.
The G3, the previous model launched in June 2014, sold 930,000 units three months after the launch in the North American market. The North American smartphone market ranks second in terms of sales volume, following the Chinese market. However, it is the world’s largest market in terms of sales figures, as it is a premium market.
