New Handset OS

The production of Samsung Electronics' second Tizen phone, has reportedly begun in earnest. There are signs that the Z3 will be released soon, as shown by the fact that the phone was approved by the Federal Communications Commission early this month.

According to industry sources on Sept. 24, records showing that components for the handset (model name: SM-Z300H) were shipped by air freight were recently spotted in the import and export list of Zauba, an India-based aviation logistics service provider. The Tizen operating system (OS), a new OS for smartphones, was developed by the Tizen Association, with Samsung and Intel leading the development efforts. The Z3 is the second Tizen phone.

There are 113 records for transporting parts for SM-Z300H this month, following 40 in July and 32 in Aug. In addition, records for transporting components for mass production rather than samples or tests have started to be spotted since mid-Aug. Considering that the amount of transported parts have sharply increased, those parts are presumed to be used to produce the Z3.

The destinations of those parts are reportedly Delhi Airport and Bangalore Airport in India. The Z1 was very popular in the country. The Z3 is expected to be launched in India and other countries first. Hence, some in the industry believe that the new Tizen-powered device will be assembled in countries to which the smartphone will be introduced.

At first, the new Tizen phone was expected to be showcased during the Tizen Developer Conference from Sept. 17 to 18 in Shenzhen, China, but it wasn't. Now, the industry is placing more weight on the possibility that it will be unveiled around the same time as the launch of the Gear S2, which is scheduled to be introduced on Oct. 2. The new smart watch also features Tizen OS.
