President Park Geun-hye will visit New York to attend the United Nations Development Summit and the 70th U.N. General Assembly from Sept. 25 to 28, Cheong Wa Dae announced on Sept. 16.

President Park is scheduled to attend the United Nations Development Summit to be held for two days from Sept. 25 to deliver a keynote speech. The United Nations Development Summit will adopt “2030 Sustainable Development which succeeded the Millennium Development Goals.”

On Sept. 26, President Park is scheduled to participate in a high-level special event about Korea’s Saemaeul, or New Community, Movement co-organized by Korea, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). She will also attend a high-level meeting of the Global Education First Initiative (GEFI).

On Sept. 27 President Park will preside over the Interactive Session of the United Nations Development Summit with Chilean President Michelle Bachelet. Then, by attending the climate change summit luncheon for the heads of states from major nations involved with climate change, President Park will share views on how to build a new climate system in the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21) to be held in Paris later this year.

The 70th U.N. General Assembly will begin a general debate, with the participation of about 160 heads of state on Sept. 28. “President Park will clarify Korea’s position about the achievements of and future directions for the U.N., which marks the 70th anniversary and key issues of this year’s General Assembly,” a Cheong Wa Dae spokesperson said. 

President Park will attend the U.N. Peace Summit co-chaired by U.S. President Barack Obama and U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Sept. 28.
