Naver is actively seeking to expand its reach to the hardware field of robotics, mobility, and smart homes with 100 billion won (US$84.6 million) of investment over the next five years.

Song Chang-hyun, CTO at Naver, unveiled a project named BLUE, which contains the company's plan, during his keynote speech at DEVIEW 2015 at the COEX Convention Center in Seoul on Sept. 14.

Naver Labs, the company's research center, will be in charge of this project.

Naver Labs is planning to work with major universities and corporations at home and abroad to expand its capability to develop software in the hardware area like robotics, mobility, and smart homes.

The nation's top portal operator is currently searching for universities and great scholars around the world for a joint project. Naver said that UCLA professor Dennis Hong, one of the world's leading designers of humanoid robots, already revealed his intention to participate in the project.
