Hyundai Engineering (HEC) announced that it held a quiz contest for its foreign workers at the main office building in Gye-dong, Seoul, on Sept. 4, in a bid to establish the global corporate culture.

Divided into the preliminary contest and the finals, the quiz contest made up of a total of 35 multiple-choice and short-answer questions. With four themes of Korean language, Korean culture, HEC, and Hyundai Motor Group, the contest asked participants what sentences in Korean mean, when to wear hanbok, a type of traditional Korean clothing, the ranking of the HEC ENR this year, and the key values of the Hyundai Motor Group. The event took place in order to boost understanding of foreign employees, and was participated in by 62 workers at its headquarters.

The company expects that the event will actually help foreign staff to understand Korean culture and promote vitality at work.

In addition, HEC has been offering a “Language Exchange Program” (LEP) from May in a bid to facilitate communication between foreign and Korean workers. Participated in by 20 teams, the program matches up one foreign employee to one Korean partner so that they can learn each other’s native languages. The company also plans to have a Korean speaking contest in Oct.
