LG Electronics will unveil various kinds of products at IFA 2015 to strength its position in the smart home market.

On Aug. 30, LG announced that it will showcase a sensor named SmartThinQ, which can turn home appliances into smart electronics, during this year's IFA in Berlin, Germany on Sept. 4 (local time). A lightwave oven and an air conditioner using open-source Internet of Things (IoT) platform AllJoyn are going to be made public as well.

The sensor is 4 cm in diameter and can be detached. When attached to consumer electronic products like washing machines, refrigerators, and air conditioners, the device notifies users of the operational status of the home appliances via a smartphone. The sensor also makes it possible to remotely control household appliances.

SmartThinQ also offers different types of convenience. When it is attached to a washing machine, it informs users that the washing is finished by sensing a change in vibration. After washing ends, it notifies users that there is a pile of clean laundry in the washing machine by checking whether or not the door of the washing machine opens.

The Korean tech company is also going to debut an AllJoyn-based lightwave oven and air conditioner. AllJoyn is an open source Internet of Things platform in which 180 companies around the world participate. AllJoyn products can communicate with each other, regardless of manufacturers, brands, or product types.
