Disputed King

Samsung Electronics reportedly became the largest smartphone vendor in most parts of the world in the second quarter of this year, aside from North America.

According to market research firm Strategy Analytics on Aug. 10, Samsung sold 71.9 million smartphones during Q2 2015, which placed the firm in the top spot in Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, and Europe.

However, the Android phone manufacturer was unable to capture the top spot in the North American market. It was upstaged by Apple. In Q2 2014, Samsung widened the gap with Apple in the U.S. smartphone market to nearly 10 percent, holding the top position with the launch of the Galaxy S5. However, the Korean tech giant has been in the runner-up spot for the fourth consecutive quarter.

Meanwhile, Chinese Android device manufacturer Huawei ranked third in the global smartphone sales rankings for the second quarter in a row, and showed significant results in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Another Chinese company Xiaomi was in fourth place in the global market, thanks to its growth in Asia, including its home country.
