New Beginnings

Korea Energy Management Corporation changed its company name to Korea Energy Agency on July 29th, making a new start. The corporation, established in 1980, has come to adopt this new name 35 years later with the rational energy utilization act passed in Jan.

For the background of changing the corporate name, the state-run energy company explained that it needs to reestablish its identity to nurture new businesses through improving energy efficiency, creating new energy markets, and dealing with climate change, as opposed to its past role of only “managing the nation's energy.”

The corporation will be reborn as a service company for the public by providing three-dimensional services centered on the three pivots of “regulation,” “promotion,” and “energy welfare,” under the vision of becoming a “Global Top Specializer to Open the Future of Energy.”

President & CEO Byun Jong-rip said, “Currently, the global energy paradigm has been shifted from a stable supply to demand or market-centered one,” adding, “The newly-born company will work towards nurturing new energy businesses and creating new markets.”
