LG Electronics has unveiled its new dual tub washing machine, the LG Twin Wash System.

The nation's leading consumer electronics manufacturer held a celebration to launch the new high-end washing machine at its headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul on July 23.

The washer comes with a combination of a full-sized front loading washer and a mini-washer, allowing users to do two loads of laundry simultaneously. The features are intended to kill the two birds of “maximum utilization of space” and “economy of time” with one dual load stone.

“We have spent some 20 billion won [US$17 million] on the research and development of the LG Twin Wash System for eight years,” said Jo Seong-jin, president and CEO of the Home Appliance and Air Solution division, which is around five times more than general washers.

The new washing machine is going to be launched in the local market first before going out to compete on the global stage. The product is scheduled to launch locally within this month and start the sale in the North American market during the October-November period this year.

LG Twin Wash System is priced from 2.3 to 2.8 million won (US$1,968 to $2,397), depending on its capacity. It comes in three models that have a capacity of 17, 19, and 21 kilograms for the front loading washer. The capacity for the mini-washer is fixed at 3.5 kilograms.
