Los Chorros

Korean companies have won a bridge construction and road expansion project worth US$430 million (approximately 576 billion won) in El Salvador.

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance announced on May 17 that Korean companies have been finalized as consultants and contractors for the Los Chorros Bridge Construction and Road Expansion Project in El Salvador, which is jointly supported by the Korean government’s Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI).

The Los Chorros Project is a road expansion project connecting the capital city of San Salvador to the western region of El Salvador and building a bridge to bypass a collapse-prone area in accordance with the El Salvadoran government’s road and transportation infrastructure master plan. Of the total project cost of US$430 million, EDCF and CABEI will pay US$210 million and US$200 million, respectively.

Following the Korean government’s decision to give an EDCF loan in September 2022, Dongbu E&C, a Korean company, was selected as the general contractor at the end of March through a tender announcement by the Ministry of Public Works of El Salvador.

On May 17, Dohwa Engineering was chosen as a consultant so all Korean participating companies were finally confirmed.
