LG Electronics announced on July 21 that it has released a new premium robotic vacuum cleaner, the “Roboking Turbo Plus,” which has improved smart cleaning and surveillance functions.

The previous vacuum cleaner model had two cameras -- one on the top and one on the bottom. The new Roboking Turbo Plus, though, has a third camera that points straight ahead. This new camera is the centerpiece of the robot vacuum's new “Home View” and “Home Guard” functions.

The Home View function provides a real-time feed of the robot's cleaning process to a smartphone. The robotic vacuum cleaner can also be remotely controlled by the homeowner via smartphone to look anywhere else that it can drive with its front camera. The Home Guard function is more autonomous. The robot can be set to detect movement inside the house using the front camera when the home owner is out, and then notify the homeowner.

The Roboking Turbo also has a function called “Home Chat” that allows its owner to communicate with the robot to set cleaning times through messengers like Line or KakaoTalk, and to check up on the cleaning process.

The Roboking Turbo Plus and the Roboking Turbo have a noise level of just 48 decibels, making them the most stealthy cleaning/surveillance robot on the market today. Also, with LG Chem’s built-in lithium-ion battery, they can maintain their vigils against intruders and dust for up to 100 minutes with a charge of three hours. The retail price on the Roboking Turbo Plus is 1.09 million won ($944.21), while the Turbo is sold at 849,000 won (US$735.45).
