The Korea Importers Association (KOIMA) announced on July 13 that an economic delegation of about 200 people from 100 importers will visit Bangkok for four days from July 15 at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who visited Korea in Dec. last year and met with KOIMA Chairman Shin Tae-yong.

The Korea-Thailand Business Forum and business meetings are scheduled for July 16, co-hosted by KOIMA and the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand. More than 300 people are expected to attend the events, and the two organizations are planning to sign an MOU there for mutual trade expansion.

It is said that the Thai government is looking forward to not only the delegation’s visit but also attraction of investment from and economic cooperation with Korea, as it is focusing on economic recovery as a way of winning over the public after the coup in 2014. Thailand is a highly important market for Korean enterprises, too.

These days, Korean cosmetics, pop culture, and food are very popular in the country, which can provide easy access to other emerging ASEAN markets. Thailand is a traditional ally of Korea and dispatched its troops to help during the Korean War. The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1958.
