Building with Air

Daewoo Engineering & Construction is working on commercial techniques for the production of construction materials with carbon dioxide, which is unprecedented in Korea.

Daewoo Engineering & Construction announced on July 9 that it signed a contract with the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation & Planning of the Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy on June 26 for the commercial use of technology for carbon dioxide capture and utilization for building material production purposes.

The research consortium, led by Daewoo Engineering & Construction, has the Korea South-East Power Corporation, Keukdong Environmental Chemical, Isystech, Nect, JYENG, and the Korea Testing & Research Institute as its members. Greenhouse gas capture and utilization facilities with a CO2 capacity of 40 tons, the largest in Korea, are scheduled to be built and operated during the course of the research project.

Three years ago, Daewoo Engineering & Construction and Keukdong Environmental Chemical succeeded in installing and running a carbon dioxide capture and utilization plant with a daily capacity of 10 tons for the first time in Korea. The plant is currently located at the Environmental Corporation of Incheon. Daewoo is planning to set the stage for the commercial employment of the technology based on its data accumulated for three years.
