LG Display unveiled on July 6 that it will mass-produce the world’s thinnest full LCD touch screen for laptops, which combines LCD and touch sensors, within this year.

The company has developed in-cell touch full high-definition (HD) liquid crystal display (LCD) panels using its patented Advanced In-cell Touch (AIT) technology. The company has previously been using an “add-on” touch screen technology that puts a touch panel on top of an LCD panel as an extra layer.

The in-cell type display does not need cover glass or additional bezel space, contributing to a reduction of weight and thickness as well as an improvement of brightness, as it reflects less light.

The latest technology reduces the panel's thickness by one millimeter, or about 25 percent, and its weight by 200 grams, or some 35 percent, compared to existing 15.6 inch touch panels with full-HD resolution.

An official at the company said, “LG Display signed contracts with multiple global laptop manufacturers to supply its latest lightweight 15.6 inch and 14 inch displays for their premium notebooks in the latter half of 2015.”
