With 400,000 OLED TVs expected to be sold worldwide this year, LG Electronics is leading the OLED TV market with a 90 percent share.

A total of 35,200 OLED TVs were sold around the world during the first quarter of this year, a sevenfold increase from the 4,600 units of Q1 2014, said the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Promotion on July 5, citing data from market research firm DisplaySearch.

Compared with the sales volume of TVs worldwide, the number of OLED TVs is still minimal. However, the OLED TV market is considered to be growing fast, given that OLED TVs are premium products.

DisplaySearch predicted that the sales volume of OLED TVs would increase from 400,000 units in 2015 to 7 million units in 2019.

By company, LG, a pioneer in OLED TVs, sold 31,200 units during Q1 this year, showing off its dominant position in the market with an 89 percent share.

Samsung Electronics, the world's largest TV vendor, or Japanese TV makers like Sony, have yet to enter the OLED TV market, but Chinese companies have already entered the market following LG. In Q1 2015 Skyworth sold 2,300 units, Hisense 1,100 units, Konka 600 units, and Changhong 100 units, and thus the combined market share of four Chinese OLED TV manufacturers reached the double digits.
