The G4 smartphone from LG Electronics ranks higher than its rivals' flagship phones in a performance evaluation by U.S.-based Consumer Reports.

According to the non-profit organization, LG's latest flagship G4 smartphone that  launched in April came in second in the evaluation, with a grade of 78 out of 100, together with its predecessor the G3.

The slightly-curved G4 features the same 5.5 inch in-plane switching QHD display as the G3. It, however, comes with a leather case, different from the metal frames of its rivals.

The G4 is also equipped with a camera with performance equal to that of a digital single-lens reflex camera, which is known to be better than its rival phones.

The Galaxy S5, which was launched last year, topped the list once again following its evaluation in May. Its successor, the Galaxy S6, took fifth place, however, even with improved specifications, together with the Galaxy 6 Edge. Apple's iPhone 6 also ranked fifth. The two latest flagship smartphones of Samsung and Apple had jointly ranked third in the evaluation in May.

The Galaxy S5 Sports, which was released only in the North America with more fitness-related features than the Galaxy S5, ranked second.
