Hyundai Motor Co.'s Accent subcompact is the best-selling export model among domestically-produced cars.

According to the “Auto Industry Trend Report” published by the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA) on June 24, the Accent is the most exported car model from Jan. to May this year. During the period, a total of 109,558 units of the Accent were exported, accounting for 9.1 percent of total exports of 1,199,368 units. Following the model were Hyundai Motor’s Avante with 103,257 and Kia Motors’ Pride with 92,112.

The Accent was sold 260,386 times overseas last year, ranking number one among domestic car models. Considering the current trend, it will become the top-selling export model this year again with its popularity in the global market.

Last month, a total of 22,874 units of the Accent were exported, a 9.1 percent increase from a year earlier with 20,964 units. This is a striking contrast from the fact that the global sales of the Avante, the Pride, and the SM3 decreased by more than 10 percent.

By automaker, Kia Motors accounted for the largest part in the nation’s car exports from January to May this year with 492,980 units, followed by Hyundai Motor with 488,150, GM Korea with 192,240, and Ssangyong Motor with 20,216.
