Internet of Things

Kumho Tire announced on June 16 that it has established an Internet of Things (IoT) based production and distribution integrated management system to apply the radio-frequency identification (RFID) system on its half-finished products as well for the first time in the world.

Previously, the company has started placing RFID tags on complete bus and truck tires manufactured at its sites in 2013. Also, it has started applying the RFID system on complete passenger tires from last year.

An official from Kumho Tire said, “Beginning this month, we are able to manage products more efficiently than our competitors by applying the RFID technology to our half-finished products manufactured in domestic plants.”

Accordingly, the company will be able to access information about a product's location, storage and release history, and inventory management as it places RFID tags on all carriers that carry half-finished products in its plants.

With the system, Kumho Tire expects to have more thorough quality control, such as first-in-first-out and real-time production management. In particular, the company believes that it will enforce stricter quality control and therefore prevent complaint factors from consumers.
