Hyundai Motor Group ranked first in the 2023 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study announced by J.D. Power on Feb 9 (local time).

This rating focuses on the type and number of problems car owners experienced during the preceding 12 months with their 3-year-old vehicle. The lower a carmaker’s score is, the higher consumers’ quality satisfaction is.

Hyundai Motor Group scored 160 points, the lowest average score among 16 global automotive groups and ahead of Toyota's 163 points and General Motors' 165 points.

Hyundai Motor Group ranked first in the study for two consecutive years. Kia Corp. placed first as a general brand for three consecutive years and won the Best General Brand Award. The group’s Genesis brand came in second among 13 luxury brands. Hyundai Motor Co. claimed sixth place among 18 general brands.

By model, the Kia K3 (local name Forte), the Kia K5 (local name Optima), and the Kia Sportage topped the semi-mid-size, mid-size, and semi-mid-size sports utility vehicle (SUV) categories, respectively. Kia Corp. won the Best Quality Award.

Hyundai Motor Co.’s Avante (local name: Elantra) and Santa Fe took home the Excellent Quality Awards in the semi-midsize car and mid-size SUV categories, respectively, while Kia's Sorento and Carnival (local name: Sedona) won the same awards in the upper mid SUV and the minivan categories, respectively.

The J.D. Power 2023 Vehicle Dependability Study covered a total of 31 brands, 227 models, and 30,062 vehicles sold in the United States from July 2019 to February 2020.
