Among the 1,600 mobile games that were released last year, only 8 reportedly entered the top 20 in the app market sales rankings, which is considered to be a major business achievement.

Industry analysts point out that local gaming companies show mediocre performance in the sale of intellectual property rights to other countries. Moreover, it is difficult for relatively small gaming companies to secure infrastructure and manpower to provide services, after developing games.

Amid growing competition in the mobile gaming market, mobile game developers are starting a platform business in the belief that it is difficult to make profits by simply developing games.

On top of that, excessive fees to release mobile games on the platforms demanded by KakaoTalk and Google Play dovetail nicely with mobile gaming companies' desire to diversify platforms. As a result, gaming platforms are becoming a new market.

Since users will be allowed to get an easy access to a lot of games through different platforms, the phenomenon is expected to have a positive effect on both users and mobile game developers.

Smilegate Megaport unveiled its new mobile service platform STOVE on June 4. The company is planning to provide a step-by-step support measure from game development to management and business so that its partner companies can concentrate on developing games.

To achieve the goal, it is going to provide a simple log-in service, an integrated billing system, support for global services, and an integrated software development kit, ultimately reducing costs for development and infrastructure.

Gaming companies will be able to get a statistics tool that provides information on real-time indexes through Stove Console, and to use publishing service-supported programs with a marketing tool inside the platform.

It will be possible for game users to build networks and create their own gaming content, thanks to competition and cooperation through the platform.

Previously, Gamevil and Com2uS built their new combined platform HIVE. The platform is widely acknowledged to have facilitated overseas marketing, as games released by both companies and other numerous games were successful. Subscribers to HIVE can get information on events related to games that are serviced by both companies. In terms of business, it is easy to manage infrastructure, as shown by smooth marketing and updates.
