Celebrating World Environment Day on June 5 chosen by the U.N., LG Electronics is conducting an environment protection campaign all around the world.

LG Electronics will hold Global Volunteer Day events in its major subsidiaries at home and abroad, including in the U.S., Russia, Columbia, Greece, and the Philippines.

The Global Volunteer Day is an eco-friendly event that has been voluntarily conducted out by the company from 2010 in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) every year.

From June 4 (local time), LG Electronics’ employees have started various environmentally-focused activities all around the world. They conduct a campaign to conserve resources and protect the environment in the U.S., Mexico, the Philippines, and Austria. Employees of the conglomerate also condut a campaign to clean up the environment in historical sites, parks, and rivers in Poland and Russia. Also, the company carries out a campaign to provide environmental education and plant trees for children in vulnerable social groups, including orphans and the disabled in Indonesia, Columbia, and Brazil.

From the beginning of this month, LG Electronics has been screening a 30-second promotional video for UNEP’s campaign in its LED billboards in Times Square in New York City. The company will play the video 60 times a day to deliver an eco-friendly message to tourists from all over the world.

Considering the fact that most international organizations and non-profit organizations lack marketing infrastructure, LG Electronics has provided LED billboards in major tourist attractions free of charge for the public interest since 2011.

Achim Steiner, executive director of the United Nations Environment Programme UNEP, said, “We deeply appreciate LG Electronics and its participants, which have been steadily cooperating, in a bid to protect the environment in the world.”
