To Discuss Arms Purchase

K9 howitzers exported from South Korea to Poland on Oct. 19

Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca and Defense Minister Angel Tilvar visit South Korea on Dec. 20. They are likely to discuss arms purchase from South Korea.

South Korean National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo visited Romania in August this year and their visit is a return visit. At that time, the speaker discussed arms and nuclear power plant exports, saying that South Korea is already working closely in the defense industry with Australia, Poland, the United Arab Emirates, and so on and its weapons are highly cost-effective and compatible with those of NATO.

Romania and South Korea signed a letter of intent for defense cooperation in September. Romania is planning to raise its national defense budget-to-GDP ratio from the current level of 2.5 percent to 3 percent in the near future.
