The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning launched the Global Cyber Security Partnership Council on May 14. Including about 50 members from domestic information security firms, IT service providers, telecoms operators, and the authorities concerned, the organization serves the purpose of supporting the overseas businesses of information security companies. Specifically, the members include Samsung SDS, LG CNS, SK C&C, Lotte Data Communication Company, SK Telecom, approximately 30 smaller security firms like Igloo Security and MarkAny, and public organizations such as the Korea Internet & Security Agency and the National Information Society Agency.

In the council, the government provides assistance for the export of domestically-developed information security models covering security consulting, marketing, and demonstration projects. Also, it is going to work on joint infrastructure for cyber security promotion, while linking the export of the models with its international aid programs in developing countries.

On June 8, it will hold a business meeting for the purpose in Dubai with about 10 companies, including MarkAny and Igloo Security. In November, foreign buyers are scheduled to be invited for business talks and site visits to those companies and the Korea Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Center.

“The council will take a central role in boosting the growth of the domestic information security industry,” the ministry explained, adding, “We are expecting that the exports from the industry will increase three-fold to 4.5 trillion won [US$4.1 billion] by 2019.”
