Two Companies in Cooperative Competition

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger met with top executives of Samsung Electronics on Dec. 9 to discuss cooperation in the semiconductor field.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger met with Kyung Kye-hyun, president of Samsung Electronics’ Device Solution (DS) Division, and Kim Woo-joon, president of the Network Business Department of the Device Experience (DX) Division, on Dec. 9 to discuss cooperation in the semiconductor field.

Upon arrival in Korea from Taiwan, Gelsinger visited Samsung Electronics’ Hwaseong and Suwon Campuses to meet with Samsung Electronics executives, including Kyung and Kim. They talked about how to ride out a global economic slump. Samsung and Intel are top companies in the global semiconductor industry, as they are the No. 1 players in the memory semiconductor and central processing unit (CPU) sectors, respectively. They compete and cooperate at the same time in the global semiconductor market.

This is Gelsinger's second visit to Korea this year, following the first one in May. During his visit to Korea in May, the Intel CEO met with Samsung chairman Lee Jae-yong to discuss cooperation in next-generation memories, system semiconductors, foundry, PCs and mobile devices.

However, Lee did not meet with the Intel CEO this time, as he returned from a business trip to the UAE on that day.
