Korean Women's Life Expectancy 2nd Longest

The life expectancies of Korean men and women are 80.6 and 86.6 years, respectively.  

Statistics Korea announced on Dec. 6 that Switzerland/Iceland and Japan are the OECD member states where the life expectancies of men and women are the longest, respectively.

According to the announcement related to 2021, the life expectancy of men is 81.9 years in Switzerland and Iceland, followed by Norway (81.7), Japan (81.6) and Sweden (81.4). It is 80.6 years in South Korea and the OECD average is 77.7 years.

When it comes to the life expectancy of women, Japan is the longest with 87.7 years, followed by South Korea (86.6), Spain (86.2), Switzerland (85.9), France (85.5) and Australia (85.3). The OECD average is 83.1 years.

South Korea became a member of the OECD in 1996. At that time, South Korean women’s life expectancy was 78.3 years and that of South Korean men was 70.2.
