Death Toll Rising
Another accident occurred at an SK Hynix plant, which is reaching a record high. This was the second gas leakage at an SK Hynix plant in Icheon this year alone.
On April 30, three workers died after inhaling nitrogen gas while working in a ventilation duct at an SK Hynix plant in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province. The accident occurred at the M14 plant construction site, which was supposed to start operating at the end of this year. As soon as the interior work was done, the company was going to install semiconductor production equipment.
This is not the first accident in an SK Hynix plant. In March, an unidentified gas leak also occurred at the same plant, injuring 13 workers, including a pregnant woman.
Also, two other workers were also taken to a hospital after being exposed to silica dioxide at the plant in Icheon in July last year. In March 2013, a liter of a dangerous photoresist liquid, used in the production of semiconductors, leaked at the M11 production line at the 3rd plant in Cheongju. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
In September the same year, a fire occurred and damaged equipment in the clean room for an hour, injuring one person, at an SK Hynix semiconductor plant in Wuxi, Zhejiang Province, in China.
