Hwang Ju-ho, president of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) visited the Czech Republic and Poland on Sept. 19 and 20, one month after his inauguration.

President Hwang met with Josef Sikela, Czech minister of industry and trade, and Bohdan Zronek, director of CEZ Group's Nuclear Energy Division in the Czech Republic on Sept. 19. On the next day, he visited Poland and met with Mateusz Berger, commissioner for strategic energy infrastructure of Poland, and Anna Lukasweska-Trzekia, vice climate and environment minister of Poland.

At the meetings, Hwang explained Korean nuclear power plants’ safety and economy and Korea’s capabilities to build nuclear power plants, while emphasizing that KHNP is the best supplier of new nuclear power plants for the Czech Republic and Poland.

In addition, Hwang explained the resumption of the construction of Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 in Korea and the launch of the pan-government Nuclear Power Plant Export Promotion Committee, expressing the Korean government’s strong will to expand domestic nuclear power plants and support Korean companies’ nuclear plant exports. He also discussed win-win strategies such as a joint entry into third countries to win and carry out nuclear power plant projects, the development of innovative small modular reactors (SMRs), joint R&D and manpower training in the nuclear power sector with the Czech and Polish officials.

The officials noted the visits to their countries by Korean Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Lee Chang-yang and Hwang within one month after taking office and thanked them for showing a big interest in their nuclear power plant projects. They expressed their hope to see Korea continue to successfully implement nuclear power plant projects in the Czech Republic and Poland as it did in the UAE.
