Hyundai Engineering and Construction (Hyundai E&C) has won a railway construction project in the Philippines, which is valued at US$1.33 billion.

The company said on Sept. 18 that it has received a notice of award (NOA) for the construction of Sections 4, 5, and 6 of the Philippine Southern Urban Railway from the Philippine Department of Transportation.

The railway connects the downtown of Manila to Calamba in the southern region and its total length is about 56 km. Hyundai E&C is responsible for three of the nine sections and will build nine ground stations and a 32 km-long viaduct. The project will take 57 months from start to finish.

Hyundai E&C will oversee all construction except for some foundation works, which will be carried out by Dong-Ah Geological Engineering. Hyundai E&C's portion is 90 percent, or US$1.2 billion.
