Lim Jung-min, head of the Google Campus in Seoul, said on May 10 that Seoul City is gaining much attention as a global startup hub. Google opened its first campus in Asia in the city in May last year.

“Startup entrepreneurs from more than 80 countries are currently associated with the Seoul campus with the South Korean government’s policy support for and investment in startups on the rise to attract more and more of such people,” he explained, adding, “Renowned foreign venture capitals such as 500 Startups and Strong Ventures are also housed in the Seoul campus to invest in them.”

Commemorating its first anniversary on May 10, the Google Campus in Seoul is planning to come up with even more programs to help South Korean startups expand their overseas networks. The programs include the Google Global Experts Week starting from June 13, during which Google employees specialized in different fields like marketing and development stay in the Seoul campus for two weeks to provide consulting for South Korean startups.

An intensive mentoring program is to be launched for startups in their growth stages, too. Google experts in charge of the Google Play, machine learning, cloud computing platform development and the like are slated to participate in this mentoring program.
