The Incheon Port Authority (IPA) said that the authority was smoothly making preparations for the development of Phase 1-2 of Incheon Port and the development of Phase 3 of New Passenger Wharf at Incheon Port in order to upgrade Incheon Port to an international logistics hub port in areas surrounding the West Sea and the mecca of marine tourism and culture.

A steady increase in arriving ships and cargo volume since the opening of Phase 1-1 Container Wharf of Incheon New Port impelled the IPA to devise an implementation strategy for the development of Phase 1-2 Container Wharf in December of last year. The IPA will start design work in earnest in the second half of this year. Ground will be broken in 2019. The IPA aims to open the container wharf in the second half of 2025.

In addition, IPA said that the authority was conducting a preliminary feasibility study on Phase 3 of the New International Passenger Wharf at Incheon Port which will build two berths on the new passenger wharf to respond to a gradual rise in cruise ship tourists and car ferries’ cargo volume.

If the preliminary feasibility study confirms economic feasibility, the IPA will commission a feasibility study and complete the project by 2025.

“The IPA will respond to new cargo volume and gradually rising demand from cruise ships by securing an additional stevedoring capacity of 1.31 million TEUs via the development of Phase 1-2 Container Wharf and Phase 3 New Passenger Wharf at Incheon New Port," said Nam Bong-hyun, president of the Incheon Port Authority.
