The 2016 Cheongju World Martial Arts Masterships, which is to begin on September 2, will be an Olympics for martial arts with 2,073 participants from 87 countries.

According to the Cheongju World Martial Arts Mastership Organizing Committee on August 16, 1,351 players, 261 coaches and 461 technical executives submitted the entries until the day before the closing day.

By nationalities, Uzbekistan has the highest participation rate with 84 players, except for Korea, following Nigeria with 64, Malaysia with 51, India with 47 and Iran with 45.

By 17 martial arts events, Taekwondo has the highest number of participants with 128, Belt Wrestling with 120, Kurash with 112, Record with 105, Martial Arts Show with 104, Kickboxing with 92, Yongmudo with 81, Hapkido with 80, Horseback Archery with 78, Wushu with 77, Sambo with 72, Taekkyeon with 65, Judo with 64, Tong-il Moo-do with 58, Muaythai with 44, Jujitsu with 43 and Kendo with 28.

An official from the organizing committee said, “Although the entry period has already ended, we will continue to accept the entries without disrupting the competition.”

The 2016 Cheongju World Martial Arts Masterships will take place in Ilwon, Cheongju City of North Chungcheong Province, for seven days from September 2 to 8 under the theme of “Harmony of the World Martial Arts.” About 2,100 masters from more than 80 countries will participate in the international martial arts sporting event with 16 martial arts events, such as Muaythai, Sambo, Jujitsu, Kickboxing, Taekwondo and Martial Arts Show, and 2 special events.
