High1 Resort tops the list of the most preferred ski resorts in Korea
15 December 2009 - 9:00am

HIGH1 Resort is located high up in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province, where the area’s long winter enables the resort to remain open longer than anywhere else. The ski resort boasts top quality snow, vast spaces and convenient facilities, attracting visitors from all over the country and overseas. This all inclusive family-friendly resort offers lodging accommodation at two hotels and two condominiums, the only casino in Korea that allows both Koreans and foreigners and a golf course located 1,100 meters above sea level.

High1 Ski Resort opened in December 2006. Of its 18 slopes, 11 have been accredited by the FIS (International Ski Federation) with three of them approved to host international ski competitions. All of the slopes are at least 1.5 km in length, with the longest slope stretching 4.2 km. Safety is always the priority at High1 Ski Resort, therefore, the resort removed bottleneck areas on slopes where most accidents occur and expanded the areas surrounding connecting sections to ensure skiers’ safety. High1 offers various types of slopes that are suitable for all levels of skiers as well as boasting state-of-the-art ski lifts and gondolas. High1 is the first ski resort in Korea to run a ski school for the physically challenged and has the infrastructure in place to train and host ski competitions for them. In 2008 the resort hosted the “IPC (International Paralympic Committee) Alpine Skiing World Championships” in which 100 skiers from 13 countries participated. In 2008 the High1 Ski Resort topped the list of KMAC’s “the most recommendable ski resort” as well as the “most preferred ski resort.” “Top of the Top” is a revolving restaurant located at the top of the Taebaek Mountains. The restaurant revolves once every 45 minutes, while diners enjoy their meals and the beautiful winter scenery.

High1 Resort offers not only exquisite facilities for skiers and snowboarders, but also various shows and events that will mesmerize visitors. Multi-media firework is a must-see show that starts on December 19, 2009 and lasts until February 27, 2010. The awe inspiring performance of professional skiers skiing down a slope whilst holding flaming torches in conjunction with a show involving laser, fireworks, music, and special lighting effects will be the biggest firework display in Korea that visitors cannot see anywhere else this season.

Skiers and snowboarders can celebrate this year’s Christmas and New Year at High1 and participate in some of the various events the resort offers. The resort’s Christmas festival includes carol performances from the resort’s quartet, a Santa Clause parade, and various concerts and performances. Every weekend during the high season, a special weekend program entitled “Saturday Stage” will be available for weekend visitors. The program includes jazz, mime, plays, magic shows and semi-classic performances that everyone can enjoy on beautiful winter weekend nights.

With Route 38 now open, it only takes 2 hours and 40 minutes to get to the resort from Seoul. Various skiing and lodging packages and public transportation options are available. Shuttle buses offered by the resort run to and from major cities for visitors’ convenience.
