Ookia announced the result of its Internet speed test for November this year on December 13. According to the company, the global average download speed was 40.11 Mbps and 20.28 Mbps for broadband and mobile, respectively. The rates increased 31.6% and 30.1% from a year ago, respectively.

When it comes to broadband, Singapore came in first with a download speed of 153.85 Mbps. It was followed by Iceland (147.51 Mbps), Hong Kong (133.94 Mbps) and South Korea (127.45 Mbps). The United States ranked 12th with 75.94 Mbps, Japan 14th with 73.51 Mbps, and China 23rd with 61.24 Mbps.

In the case of mobile, Norway ranked first in the world with 62.66 Mbps and was followed by the Netherlands (53.01 Mbps), Iceland (52.78 Mbps), Singapore (51.5 Mbps) and Malta (50.46 Mbps). South Korea ranked eighth with 47.64 Mbps, China 31st with 31.22 Mbps, the U.S. 44th with 26.32 Mbps, and Japan 55th with 21.67 Mbps. 

The mobile download speed of Laos, 13.77 Mbps, increased 249.5% from a year earlier to show the highest rate of increase. Vietnam and Trinidad and Tobago followed it with 188% and 133%, respectively. The broadband Internet download speed of Reunion Island rose 141% year on year, followed by those of Guatemala (116.7%) and Ghana (82.1%).

Puerto Rico’s mobile download speed fell 40% from a year ago with its telecom infrastructure damaged by Hurricane Maria. Those of Uzbekistan and Cote d'Ivoire fell 31.8% and 26.1%, respectively. The broadband Internet download speed of Algeria showed a decline of 23.9%, too.
