Samsung Electronics announced on November 26 that the report by JTBC, a Korean broadcasting company, on the death of its employees who suffered from rare diseases was unscientific and wrong.

“JTBC’s report was based on expected population calculation by a research team led by Seoul National University professor Baek Do-myung, but it is a method not proven scientifically,” Samsung Electronics pointed out, adding, “The calculation resulted in an analysis that the expected population regarding deceased people is higher in Samsung Electronics, but the calculation method was not clarified and is not a general epidemiologic research method.”

Samsung Electronics also pointed out JTBC’s claim that the company is more dangerous because people died in a place with 500 operators is not statistically correct. “Where the number of 500 originated itself is unclear and it doesn’t make any sense to claim that a manufacturing facility is dangerous because certain people died while working in the facility during a certain period.”

Samsung Electronics went on to say, “JTBC simply quoted a scholar who has been on the side of civic organizations for long in spite of the presence of scientifically reliable research methods and results.”
