LG U+ announced on September 26 that Huawei and itself succeeded in realizing dual connectivity at its 5G base stations for testing purposes. The dual connectivity technology is to increase the speed of data transmission by combining 3.5 GHz and 28 GHz with each other.

The dual connectivity technology is particularly useful in an environment that has base stations using frequencies with different wave arrival distances. In other words, the key of the technology is increasing the speed of data transmission by means of simultaneous data transmission from multiple base stations.

The demonstration conducted jointly by LG U+ and Huawei was the first field test in South Korea in which 5G base stations are combined with each other although dual connectivity between 4G base stations has been demonstrated in labs located in buildings.

“We will continue to work on new technology in order to provide unique 5G services,” said LG U+ senior managing director Kim Dae-hee.
