Samsung SDS, the information technology solutions unit of Samsung Group, announced on January 5 that it unveiled its “Enterprise Mobility Management” solution, designed for application to smartwatches running on Samsung Electronics’ Tizen operating system, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017, the world’s largest consumer tech show, in Las Vegas.

Workers who can increase the work efficiency when they can freely use both hands, such as ground crew members at airports, flight attendants at airlines and employees at theme parks, are willing to use smartwatches at work. However, companies are reluctant to introduce smartwatches due to security concerns.

By installing Samsung SDS’ EMM solution, companies can remotely manage wearable devices owned by employees and easily include apps and programs that may contain confidential corporate information. The manager can also remotely activate the screenlock function or initialize the system to prevent any data leakage in the case a device has been lost or stolen.

In addition, the new system allows for minimal battery draining by offering users options to disable certain functions such as Global Positioning System (GPS) and Near-Field Communication (NFC).

Meanwhile, Samsung SDS’ EMM solution was certified by the Common Criteria laid out by the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) under the National Security Agency (NSA) of the U.S. last year for the first time in the world, being recognized for strong security.
