Strategic Move: Samsung Display Separates LCD, OLED Divisions | BusinessKorea

Samsung Display is drawing attention in the industry by separating the LCD and OLED business units from each other again. The adjustment looks to be to shore up the marketing capabilities of each of the divisions by having sales experts at the respective top positions. However, it is also said that Samsung Display is looking to resume its OLED TV business. 

According to industry sources, the recent business unit separation by Samsung Display is to reshape the sales and marketing strategies. Samsung Display’s LCD business focuses on TVs, monitors, and tablet PCs, whereas its OLED business revolves around mobile phones, which means they have different target customer groups. 

Some people are predicting that the adjustment at this time will be a new chance for the OLED business of Samsung Display. Expectations are on the rise for new investment projects after the re-establishment of the OLED division, with the Samsung Group itself mulling over when to make an investment in next-generation OLED displays. 

The OLED division is expected to diversify its customers and cooperate closer with its existing customers as the A3 line for the production of flexible and small to mid-size OLED panels is put into operation from the first half of this year.

The prediction that the OLED TV business will resume in the near future is becoming more and more persuasive as well. At present, it is said that Samsung Display is checking the timing of mass production, while focusing on the R&D of large-screen OLED panels.
