Samsung Electronics is taking it up a notch in its attack on the market for SSDs, the preferred next-generation storage device.

The tech giant announced on April 28 that it launched mass production of the industry’s first 3-bit NAND-based SSD for data centers this month.

The demand is soaring for SSDs, which saves data via memory semiconductors, as they can process data four times faster then conventional hard drives with higher stability.

The company explained that these new 3-bit SSD are built on a scale of 10 nanometers, using 128-gigabit 3-bit NAND Flash memory, enabling them to perform at equal levels as those of 2-bit SSD in terms of Quality of Service (QoS) and random performance that are important for large scale data centers and cloud servers.

The new SSD, available in densities of 240GB, 480GB, and 960GB, can create the most optimal system for any clients’ needs.

The company, topping the global brand SSD market in 2012, is targeting the market for SSDs used for next-gen large-scale data centers under the goal of raising its SSD sales to US$3 billion from last year’s US$2.05 billion.
